On November 7, the Suleman Dawood School of Business (SDSB) hosted an engaging panel discussion that explored the changing dynamics of teaching, learning, and student engagement. Titled “Understanding Learning: Faculty Reflections on Student Engagement and Evaluation”, the session provided an interactive platform for faculty to reflect on classroom practices and explore strategies to improve learning outcomes.

Moderated by Dr. Mohsin Bashir, Associate Professor at SDSB and a Fulbright Scholar with a PhD in Public Administration and Policy from Arizona State University, the discussion highlighted the importance of moving beyond traditional metrics to focus on meaningful connections between faculty and students. Drawing on his expertise in leadership, organisational networks, and performance management, Dr. Bashir led the conversation on how engagement, communication, and innovation can collectively enrich the learning experience.

The panel included faculty members: Dr. Ghazal Mir Zulfiqar, Associate Professor and Co-Editor-in-Chief of Organization, who shared insights from her research in public policy and international finance; and Muhammad Asim, Teaching Fellow at SDSB, who discussed leveraging data analytics to inform creative and strategic decision-making in marketing and beyond.

Panellists examined key factors affecting students’ learning capacities and evaluation patterns in both technology-driven and reading-intensive courses. They emphasised the importance of student feedback, both formal and informal, as a vital tool for improving teaching effectiveness and increasing classroom satisfaction. The session reaffirmed the shared aim of continuous improvement in teaching and learning, emphasising that true educational impact is measured not just in scores, but also in engagement, understanding, and collaboration.

This thought-provoking discussion reaffirmed SDSB’s dedication to fostering a learning environment where innovation, dialogue, and reflection underpin meaningful educational experiences.
