International Exchange Programme

The best four month of your life

Whether you are a current student at SDSB LUMS looking to spend a semester in another country or a future student looking for international study exposure; a semester abroad will enhance your degree with a global perspective. LUMS MBA gives you that chance to create a global network of friends, expand your cultural awareness and ensure a memorable university experience.

Studying abroad is a transformative experience that contributes to increased creativity, collaboration, and personal development. The International Student Exchange Programme is designed for students from our partner universities worldwide, who wish to spend a period of time studying at LUMS, earning credits to transfer back to their home university. Similarly, a percentage of LUMS MBA students spend time at various international business schools and universities as part of their degree programme.

Courses taken while participating in the International Exchange Programme are recorded on the student’s LUMS transcript. Exchange students receive benefits available to the host institution’s resident graduate students, including access to libraries, laboratories, health services, and athletic facilities.

SDSB MBA International Exchange Programme

SDSB has been a pioneer in forming and harnessing international linkages in the country. Our partners are aligned in a way where our faculties collaborate publishing of cases, journals and books, holding case-based conferences, co-teaching courses at programme levels. Our students have also benefited from these linkages as a select number of them have been admitted to international study programmes for one semester in the MBA programme. With the aim of globalizing the MBA programme, SDSB actively involves itself with different international business schools.

Information sessions about the international exchange program are held during the Spring Semester each year. Applications for the limited number of slots are submitted in March-April for Fall exchange of the current year. This unique chance of studying abroad helps the students in learning various techniques of business which are taught elsewhere; and the students gain an international exposure of living in a different culture and environment.

Application Timeline

Admission to the international exchange programme is offered once per year, and the process begins in the middle of Spring Semester. MBA students can only avail the Fall Semester of their second year for the exchange programme. Ordinarily, students are not allowed to defer admission, so please apply for the appropriately.

  • Exchange programme nominations are taken from 1st year MBA students – March/April
  • Final List is announced after student selection – April
  • Admission Application Procedure – April/May
  • Course Selection and Programme Workload – June till July
  • Visa Process – May/June
  • Departure – August/September

Eligibility

  • Prior to applying for an exchange programme, the applicant should have completed at least one semester as a full-time student at LUMS and must be currently enrolled in the MBA programme.
  • An MBA student must hold a 3.5 CGPA or above in their first semester.

How to Apply

An invitation email is sent out to the MBA students which provides them all the details regarding the exchange programme i.e. information about the host university, course offerings, time period of the programme, selection criteria and deadline for submitting applications. Interested candidates send their nominations which are tabulated by the office based on the class academic rankings. Shortlisted students are informed of the selection and given a week’s time to make the final decision to go on the exchange programme. The selected student list is prepared in order of priority on the basis of their academic achievements at LUMS. Once a student is selected for an international school, they are sent the complete admissions package, which is filled under the supervision of the office managers. External Relations Office will facilitate the candidates throughout their course selection process and rest of the necessary academic requirements.

Prepare a Tentative Plan of Study:

This plan, considered part of your application, is an indication of the kinds of courses you would like to undertake at a partner institution. It is not binding. Please consult our course catalog provided by the ERO and partner university in preparing your plan. With a few exceptions noted on the application, most courses are open to visiting students. Because some courses are limited in enrollment, require the instructor’s permission, or have prerequisites, adjustments to your course selection are to be expected during registration week. Course schedules and information about limited enrollment for each academic year are not available until late summer. Many courses remain the same from year to year and any course not being offered is usually identified.

Tuition & Fees

International exchange students are exempt from paying any tuition fees to the international institutes provided there is a current exchange agreement in place between SDSB LUMS and the international university. Students must be formally nominated to study abroad by the External Relations Office. All students can check with their host department to see if teaching opportunities are available. They must contact their home institution’s international student office before accepting any on-campus or off-campus employment.

Please be aware that a host institution may charge an application fee or fees for services that are not covered by tuition, such as health and hospitalization charges. It is a student’s responsibility to meet such charges.

Visa process

Students are informed that taking the necessary steps to acquire a visa is their own responsibility. The LUMS external relations office only helps students complete their documents and provide necessary information for a successful application
