Frequently Asked Questions

Does LUMS require any entrance test for admission to the EMBA programme?

Yes, admission test is required. Applicants are required to take Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or NTS GAT (General) or LGAT.

What should I know about the GMAT/GRE?

The Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) is offered year-round as a computer adaptive test. If you have recently taken the test, you may submit your application with an unofficial score report however, you will need to submit an official GMAT score report to our office as soon as received. There is no minimum required score. A high score does not guarantee anyone's acceptance, nor does a low score preclude it as no minimum score is required. For further details, please log in to www.mba.com

For how long are the GMAT/GRE/ NTS GAT (General) scores valid?

GMAT/GRE scores are valid for five years. However, NTS GAT (General) is valid for two years.

If I take GMAT/GRE/NTS GAT (General) more than once, do you consider my highest score?

We will consider your best scores of a single attempt.

What is the application process?

Application for admission to the EMBA programme is an online process (there is no paper application for you to fill out or mail).

After creating an account and accessing the online application, you may then begin to complete your application.

You can work on your application at any time and submit it when you are ready. Please note that we expect applicants to adhere to the deadlines stated on the website. After submission you may print a copy of your application for your own use.

Please also note that all supplemental materials, such as transcripts, test scores, letters of experience and recommendations must be received by our office online as soon as the application is submitted.

If I provide you with my GMAT/GRE/NTS GAT (General) score or GPA or resume etc., can you tell me my chance of admission?

We consider many factors in the admission selection process therefore, it is impossible to predict one's chance of admission without reviewing a complete application. You can review a class profile on our website if you like to benchmark your statistics against current LUMS EMBA students.

By which date should applicants expect their Test Registration Cards to be delivered?

Test Registration Cards and instructions will be visible to the applicant's online application account with an email that the Test Registration Card has been posted. It will be visible to the applicant's online account one week before the test date.

I have submitted my online application & all required documents on time but I am unable to view my Test Registration Card?

If an applicant is unable to view his/her Test Registration Card despite completing all the requirements then he/she can write to us at admissions@lums.edu.pk.

Whom should I ask to write a letter of recommendation for me and when will my referees receive the email?

We recommend that at least one should be from a supervisor in your professional career. The other letter can be from a faculty member who can evaluate you academically. Referees must not be friends, relatives, or acquaintances; letters from these sources won't be accepted and may result in losing points. Your referees will receive an email within 24 hours once you submit your application. Please inform your referees to check your spam/junk folder if they have not received the email.

How will an EMBA benefit my employer and me?

It will give you the strategic management skills to take on new responsibilities at work, while continuing to contribute in the workplace during your studies, applying new theories and approaches, and doing projects on your business.

How Executive MBA is different from regular MBA at LUMS?

The Executive MBA participants are about six years more experienced, on average, than the traditional MBAs. In addition, the Executive MBA programme has been designed to offer the skills required for those about to enter the senior management ranks of their organisations, rather than in-depth study in a specific functional area.

What areas of concentration or majors are available?

The Executive MBA programme is designed for people who have already taken the first step in their career. We therefore do not offer specific ‘majors’ since these concentrations are generally viewed as a way for business students to prepare themselves for entry-level positions. Instead, our focus is to offer courses to those already in management positions, in order to enable them to progress to higher managerial and leadership ranks. Our training is therefore geared more toward the understanding of broad management and leadership skills.

I have six years of work experience but I do not have four years of managerial experience. Can I still apply?

Yes, you can apply, but you need to prove to the Admissions Committee that you can cope with the academic and intellectual side of the coursework.

Where would I stay during my full-time study weeks?

Limited accommodation facilities are available for the students at REDC.

What happens if I miss a course?

We strongly discourage missing any course; however, we do understand that this situation might arise during Executive MBA. We may accommodate a participant in this regard but cannot guarantee that the individual will graduate on time.

Do you have any age limit for admission to the EMBA programme?

No, there is no age restriction for admission to the EMBA programme.

Do you call all applicants for an interview? What kind of questions are asked during the interview?

Applications will be reviewed by the relevant committee. Shortlisting for interviews will be done based on the applicant's academic achievement, quality of work experience, and admission test scores. Only short-listed candidates will be called for the interviews.

Can I defer admission?

In truly exceptional circumstances, the Admissions Committee may grant a deferral. All requests should be made in writing and will be reviewed on a case to case basis.

How do I inform about a change in the online application?

It is highly recommended to fill out the application form carefully. Changes cannot be made after the submission of online application. In sheer need an applicant can send the updated information to admissions@lums.edu.pk with the specific header "Change in Application Form".

How will you notify me regarding a decision on my application?

Admission decision will only be communicated through courier service; however, you can also check your application status through your online account under the "Admission Status" tab. Regretfully, we are unable to provide information regarding your application status by telephone or e-mail.

May I appeal my admission decision or ask to have the decision explained?

The admission process is a well deliberated and thorough process. Each year we receive a large number of outstanding applications. Unfortunately, all of them do not qualify because of the limited number of available seats. The decision regarding admission is final.

If your application is unsuccessful you will also receive a letter informing you of this. Due to the volume of applications the University receives; it is not possible to provide feedback on unsuccessful applications.

Who is considered an international applicant?

A foreign national who is not of Pakistani origin and does not have a Pakistani passport/NICOP/CNIC is eligible to apply to LUMS as an International applicant. Applicants holding dual nationality out of which one is Pakistani will not be considered as International applicants.

What is the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan?

Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan is an independent, autonomous, and constitutionally established institution of primary funding, overseeing, regulating, and accrediting the higher education efforts in Pakistan.
HEC is responsible for formulating higher education policy and quality assurance to meet the international standards as well as providing accrediting academic degrees, development of new institutions, and uplifting of existing institutions in Pakistan.

Financial Support at LUMS

LUMS is committed to making high-quality education accessible to talented students from all backgrounds. Our financial aid programme offers a wide range of support options, designed to facilitate students who demonstrate both high academic achievement and financial need.

Financial aid awards are assessed each year, considering academic performance, demonstrated financial need, available resources, and university policies. While LUMS endeavours to provide substantial financial assistance within its available resources, students are encouraged to explore external funding sources to complement the aid provided by the university.

LUMS strives to enable students to pursue their educational and professional goals without financial barriers, reinforcing our commitment to an inclusive and academically vibrant community.

The following financial support options are available for Executive MBA Programme students:

  • Women's Scholarship
  • MCB - Student Personal Loan

Women's Scholarship

LUMS is committed to making education accessible to talented students from diverse backgrounds. The Women’s Scholarship supports this mission by offering a pathway for high-achieving women to pursue advanced degree programmes, helping to bridge gender gaps in business education and leadership. Beyond financial assistance, recipients join a network of mentors and peers, fostering collaboration, professional growth, and a shared vision for future leaders.

The aim of Women's Scholarship is to foster, celebrate and advance women’s leadership in business. By tapping highly talented young women, we hope to contribute towards building the future of not only their families but also their communities. This scholarship will support female candidates to pursue higher education on merit and will increase the number of women joining the Graduate Programmes of the Business School. 50% tuition fee waiver will be awarded to women admitted on high merit under the SDSB Women's Scholarship initiative.

This Scholarship will groom female managers and leaders of business; dramatically changing the managerial landscape of Pakistan. As these women assume leadership roles in organisations across the country, there will be a change in the culture of these organisations.

Note: In case an applicant qualifies for both Financial Aid award and Women scholarship, only one award will be given.

MCB - Student Personal Loan

LUMS has entered into an agreement with MCB Bank Limited through which MCB Bank provides commercial loans to students.

The commercial loan facility is pivotal for students who are currently financially unable to afford the cost of tuition and living facilities. This is one of the first ventures of its kind in Pakistan and demonstrates LUMS' commitment towards providing equal educational opportunities to its students.

All loans are subject to the Bank’s internal approvals and MCB Bank reserves the right to approve/disapprove a loan based on its internal assessment. In case a loan is not approved, students will be required to provide the total fees and expenses of the education themselves.
