Welcoming the Undergraduate Class of 2030 to SDSB

The Suleman Dawood School of Business (SDSB) welcomed its incoming undergraduate cohort through a two-day orientation programme designed to introduce students and their families to the academic environment, values and community that will shape their experience at LUMS.
The orientation provided students with an opportunity to familiarise themselves with the School, meet its leadership and faculty, and gain a better understanding of the academic journey ahead. The programme also introduced students to the expectations, resources and values that will guide their experience as members of the SDSB community.

Welcome to the SDSB community

The orientation began by welcoming both students and their families to SDSB. The parents’ session provided families with an introduction to the university experience and highlighted the shared role of the School and parents in supporting students through this important transition. Students were subsequently welcomed to SDSB through an interactive session focused on belonging and community. The session offered an introduction to the School and encouraged students to begin building a sense of connection with their peers, faculty and the wider SDSB community. The cohort also had the opportunity to engage with the School’s leadership, including the Dean, Dr. Adeel Zaffar, Director Undergraduate Programme, Mr. Razi Allah Lone, and Associate Dean Undergraduate Programmes, Dr. Omair Haroon. These interactions gave students an early understanding of the academic community they are joining and the leadership that will support them throughout their undergraduate journey.

Preparing for the academic journey ahead

A key focus of the orientation was helping students understand the transition to university-level education and the support available to them at LUMS. Students were introduced to the academic expectations of their programme, as well as the resources and systems available to support them throughout their studies. 

The orientation also emphasised the importance of academic integrity and responsible engagement with the learning process. These conversations established the principles and expectations that will shape students’ academic experience at SDSB. Faculty engagement further allowed the incoming cohort to begin connecting with the School’s academic community and gain a better understanding of the learning environment they will become part of.

Building a strong foundation

Beyond academic preparation, the orientation introduced students to the values and responsibilities that come with being part of the SDSB community. Discussions about conduct, inclusion, and respectful engagement highlighted the importance of creating an environment where students can learn, participate, and grow together. The programme, therefore, served not only as an introduction to university life but also as an opportunity for students to understand the culture and values that underpin their experience at SDSB.

The beginning of the undergraduate journey

The Undergraduate Orientation marked the beginning of a new academic chapter for the incoming cohort. Through interactions with the School’s leadership and faculty, introductions to academic expectations and support systems, and an emphasis on community and shared values, students began their journey with a clearer understanding of what it means to be part of SDSB.

As the new cohort embarks on this journey, SDSB looks forward to supporting them as they explore new ideas, build meaningful connections, develop their academic and professional capabilities, and grow as members of the School’s community.
